Green Shoebox Band-Members
R. LORRAINE TAYLOR-WHEATON: lead vocals, guitar, music director
RLo lives in Kansas City, MO and is a founding member of GSB. She grew up in “the church”, took piano lessons, and played viola in the Junior High Orchestra in Rexdale, Ontario. But when her father’s ministry took the family to South Africa, that’s when she picked up her first guitar and never looked back!
She sang in children’s choirs, youth group musicals, camp choirs, and then junior and high school, and college choirs as well as any other musical opportunities. She started singing solo and writing music sometime during high school. After moving from Indiana to Kansas City, she met Larry Campbell and became one of the friends in “Larry Campbell & Friends” or LCF, which eventually became “Last Chance Flight”. She sang with Larry and various friends for almost 30 years! After LCF disbanded, RLo and Stan formed Green Shoebox Band with the goal of providing familiar music in a unique style.
RLo plays guitar and is the lead vocalist doing an amazing job covering a wide variety of artists. She is also our musical director. Of course, she plays Taylor guitars.
STAN ADELL: drums, electronic percussion, promo, booking
Stan lives in Olathe, KS and is a founding member of GSB. He was blessed to grow up in a musical family in Ottawa, KS and started playing drums in 5th grade to be like “Ringo.” He has had many opportunities to record and travel around the world. He is enjoying playing with his talented musical friends in GSB.
After high school Stan traveled and recorded with Simple Truth, a pioneering Christian country rock band from Kansas City. They had the opportunity to record albums and travel all over the United States and overseas. One interesting highlight was when they were invited to play at the 1974 Ozark Music Festival in Sedalia, Missouri. The crowd and heat became so bad the festival was a disaster. They expected maybe 50,000 people and weren’t prepared for the estimated half-million people that overran the small town. The main acts were flown to the stage with helicopters, including Aerosmith, the Eagles, Blue Oyster Cult, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Bob Seger, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Joe Walsh, America, Charlie Daniels Band, REO, Ted Nugent, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, etc.
Stan enjoyed several years playing with RLo in Last Chance Flight, a popular band from Olathe, KS playing original and classic rock music for hundreds of events at popular venues and festivals. He was finally able to share the stage with “Ringo” when Last Chance Flight opened for Liverpool, a great Beatles Tribute Band, at the 2014 Olathe, KS Summer Concert Series.
Stan manages the band and promo activities as well as beating the drums. He plays a hybrid of custom-made TreeHouse nested kit and electronic percussion.
KEN BELL: bass guitar, Hammond organ, vocals
Ken lives in Overland Park, KS and joined GSB in 2022. He started playing guitar and bass in rock bands at age 14. In high school it was blues and R&B then a jazz band in college. During an extended mid-life moment, he added organ, trumpet, trombone and drums. His music expanded to include Afro-beat, Blue Grass, Country, Gospel, Latin, and Reggae/Ska bands. He played at a variety of events including Plaza Art Fairs, Spirit Festivals, and Reggae Festivals.
Ken plays a variety of bass guitars and the Hammond organ and adds vocal harmonies.
KENNY WARREN: lead guitar, vocals, audio technician
Kenny lives in Overland Park, KS and joined GSB in 2022. He began playing instruments and singing music in Junior High and at church. By the time he reached college, he realized his ears were a big part of his musical skills and became a sound tech as well.
All these experiences led him to pursue musicianship as a career choice serving as an educator in public schools and a music minister in churches. He had a great time in the NE corner of Oklahoma in both those areas for about 10 years, then moved to the Kansas City area and continued these same types of musical endeavors while increasing his musical and sound skills.
Kenny plays lead guitar, occasional bass, and adds vocals. He is also our primary sound technician/consultant.
MIKE WHEELER: saxophones, guitar, vocals
With a career spanning over three decades and three continents, Mike Wheeler is a seasoned saxophonist whose musical journey is as diverse as it is impressive. Having graced stages around the globe, Mike’s saxophone has become a familiar voice in numerous artists’ projects, infusing each performance with his distinctive flair.
Beyond his work as a musician, Mike has served as a worship leader and pastor, seamlessly blending his skills in vocals and guitar to elevate his contributions with the Mike Wheeler Band. His belief that “music is spirit and it is my privilege as a musician to help people connect with the divine” is at the heart of his artistry.
DENNIS CARNAHAN (Member Emeritus/Alternate): saxophones, vocals
Our friend Dennis Carnahan has stepped aside to spend more time with family and growing business commitments. We will enjoy any chance we get to experience his amazing talent and friendship. He will fill in occassionally if needed.
Dennis says music is a lifestyle for the lucky ones; for others an effort in futility. I am somewhere in the middle. I have been fortunate enough to carve out a small niche as a musician. I never sought music as a profession but have found music and musical expression to be a wonderful means of communication.
JOEL DAVIDSON (Founding Member/Alternate): guitars, bass, keyboard, vocals
Joel was a founding member of Green Shoebox Band. The challenges of COVID caused us to take a break and reorganize with new members. We appreciate Joel’s talent and commitment to drive from Topeka for rehearsals and gigs for years. He is actively sharing music in his hometown with friends and will occasionally sit in with us as needed.
We will occasionally use guest musicians for special events.
Special thanks to our former founding members, Joel Davidson, Al Fisher and Dan Franck,
and to our spouses who allow us to enjoy spending so much time together sharing music.
We also thank Rick Wheaton for his professional photos and support.
